As the first and only woman general manager of an NFL team, Susan had long been accustomed to playing in the big leagues with men. But her role with the Eagles wasn't her first -- or her last -- foray into male-dominated business territory. From starting a clothing manufacturing business to running food distribution and processing businesses, Susan has managed companies with combined annual revenues that ranged from $20 million to $50 million.

Before her time at the Philadelphia Eagles, Susan was a teacher with a passion of reading.  She also had a keen eye for business and stared her own clothing company.  She aggressively sought after a manufacturer and sold them on taking a chance with her product.  While she was careful in setting up the business with a partner and associated contracts, they were not watertight. She vowed to learn more, which ultimately led her to law school at the age of 35, while raising her one young child.

After her time with the team, Susan added two more exclusively male dominated businesses to her ventures, both in meat processing, which she owned and ran for more than 20 years. Susan’s beef company was the only female-owned company that sold millions of pounds of meat products to national chains including McDonald’s, Chili’s, Dairy Queen, Jack in the Box, and many others.

Susan’s philosophy on life and business can be summed up by her powerful words, “What I realized is, what women do naturally well is they do not have a problem asking for help, if in fact, the help is with something that has a purpose behind it.”
